Linoleum is a new quarterly magazine focused on geek women (25-35) that seeks submissions of original fiction, poetry, reviews, interviews, features and meta discussions in the genres of pop culture, science, music, math, fantasy, or geek/hipster/gamer cultures. There is a $3 reading fee that is non-refundable. Both women and men are encouraged to submit.

Payment

accepted poetry is $5 per poem

accepted articles and short stories (under 3,000 words) ($15 per byline).

accepted longer fiction we will pay $20

We currently do not pay for unsolicited photography, graphic art, or reviews, but will send one free copy of the magazine for printed submissions.

*Preference is given to authors who submitted for the first issue.

Tips:

The editors appreciate sarcasm, humor, and unique voices. If this is a piece you can submit everywhere we probably don’t want it. Our magazine is women-centric and badly written female characters will cause us to throw your submission in the trash. Character bashing or fandom bashing also will be tossed into the heart of the TARDIS never to be seen again.

Please make sure to have someone else proof read and edit your work. Typos, errors and other mistakes may cause us to slay your work immediately and not publish it.

Accepted Work:

If your work is accepted you will receive full credit and a 100 word bio/photo on the contributor page.

Specific Guidelines - Written

Fiction – 3,000 words maximum for short stories. 10,000 words for a serialized story (the editors will only select one such story). Please note for legal reasons we can’t accept fan fiction.

Poetry – Up to 3 pages of poetry may be submitted.

Reviews – Up to 1,000 sparkling words reviewing new fiction, music, books, DVD/bluray, box sets that appeal to the genres above.

Interviews and Features – Up to 3,000 words in the same genres above.

Meta – Up to 3,000 words that cover an academic discussion of the above genres. All academic approaches are accepted.


Specific Guidelines - Images

Linoleum is always looking for original artwork, photography, and text art to use in the issues. There’s no fee for entering your own original work for possible use. Please submit large, high-rez (300 dpi) .tiff or .png files whenever possible.

Please note that this does not include fanfiction for legal reasons.
